Canary melon prices surge in Brazilian market due to high European demand
Aug, 18, 2023 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202334
Between August 14th and 18th, canary melon costs in the Brazilian domestic market witnessed a notable upswing in the Rio Grande do Norte/Ceará region. The 5 to 8 variety concluded the period with an average selling price of R$ 40.94 per 13 kg box, reflecting an 8% increase.
Industry insiders consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea attribute this price surge to robust demand from the European continent. Consequently, a substantial portion of locally produced fruit, particularly the smaller variants, is being exported abroad. This international demand has subsequently led to a diminished supply in the domestic market. This trend is anticipated to persist over the upcoming weeks until a stabilization in supply is observed across the European market.
