Caramuru Alimentos confirmed the signing of a 25-year lease agreement for the MCP02 area, comprising 3,180 m² at the Port of Santana in Amapá, at a ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Infrastructure in August 30, 2021, at B3, in São Paulo.
Alberto Borges de Souza, shareholder and member of the strategic committee, and Alexandre Spegiorin, Processes and Logistic Control Manager represented Caramuru at B3.
The Port of Santana mainly handles Soy Protein Concentrate (SPC) destined for the European market, especially Norway, to use as salmon feed. The Caramuru terminal makes it possible to replace a 100% road modal (from Sorriso/MT to Santos/SP, totalling 2,100km) with a road road-water modal (Sorriso to Itaituba/PA, in a 1,100 km road stretch, and from Itaituba to Santana/AP, in an 850km water-bound stretch), in addition to minimizing environmental impacts and reducing logistical costs and increasing competitiveness.
Nearly R$ 53.9 million in investments in two yearly instalments are foreseen, leading to the modernization of the port structure, generation of jobs and increased foreign exchange participation.
“Caramuru brings, in its DNA, robust investments in infrastructure and logistics. In line with this innovative spirit, which has driven the company forward, Caramuru is interested in investing in Itaituba-PA and Santana-AP for the outflow of SPC. The contract signing was an accomplishment for the firm and the national agribusiness economy,” Alberto Borges de Souza says. In 2021, the firm declared R$7.6 billion in revenue, the most significant sum in its 58-year existence, representing a 25.1% increase over the previous year.
