Cargill has launched a new logistics operation to optimize routes and meet producers’ needs for agricultural inputs. In partnership with Brado Logística, the company has combined railway logistics—transporting containers with agricultural inputs from the Port of Santos (SP) to Mato Grosso—with the return route carrying containers for the export of Brazilian cotton.
The new route, first operated in March, aligns with Cargill’s commitment to reducing transportation emissions and facilitating producers’ access to competitive solutions that support productivity.
According to Cargill, this innovation is possible because teams from various departments are focused on improving the services offered to producers. “Each logistics operation has its specifics. We identified an opportunity to leverage export operations of Brazilian commodities with the potential to return carrying agricultural inputs. Through this partnership, we’ve optimized freight costs, improved logistics, avoided waste, and reduced carbon emissions in transportation,” says Rafael Felicissimo, Container Trade Lane Leader at Cargill Brazil.
The starting point of this partnership was the arrival of the first shipments at the Port of Santos (SP) in March. New containers are expected to arrive at the terminal weekly, and Cargill is considering increasing this volume, further consolidating its leadership role in transforming Brazilian agribusiness logistics. “For rural producers, we offer agricultural inputs at more competitive prices, supporting cost-efficiency for our clients,” emphasizes Danilo Rezende, Leader of Crop Protection and Seeds at Cargill Brazil.
Brazil plays a vital role in global food production. By investing in these practices and partnerships, Cargill reinforces its role as a driving force for transformation in the sector, promoting a more efficient and sustainable supply chain.
“The partnership with Cargill represents a significant step in optimizing the logistics flows of Brazilian agribusiness. By integrating crop protection products and fertilizers into the scope of this partnership, we reinforce our responsibility and commitment to our clients,” says Marcus Nascimento, Sales Executive for Agricultural Inputs at Brado. “Our rail-based multimodal solution ensures greater economic efficiency and sustainability, enhancing safety, predictability, and competitiveness with a lower environmental impact,” he adds.
