Cargo handling at the Port of Rio de Janeiro grows 12.6% in the first two months of 2022

The first two months of 2022 were positive for the Port of Rio de Janeiro. In the two months, cargo handling reached 1.5 million tonnes, surpassing by 2.6% the figures for the same period the year before. These figures are from the Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), the port authority that manages the ports of Itaguaí, Niterói, Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro.
According to a study conducted by the port authority’s business planning department, containerized cargo handling at the Port of Rio de Janeiro grew in January and February, up 31.2% from the first two months of 2021. The volume handled in TEUs (84,774) increased 31.8% from the same period last year.
The study also indicates that the other cargo handled at the Port of Rio de Janeiro during the two-month period stayed at similar levels as those recorded in 2021, except for pig iron and steel, which increased by 40% and 52.6%, respectively.
Invoicing
Invoicing at the Port of Rio de Janeiro in the first two months of 2022 was R$37.1 million. The amount corresponds to an increase of 12.9% compared to the same period in 2021.
