Cattle Ranchers Form Association to Export Live Cattle Directly, Increasing Profits by Up to 20%
Mar, 31, 2025 Posted by Denise VileraWeek 202514
A union that delivers results? That’s the idea behind the UPEAV – Brazil’s Union of Live Animal Exporting Ranchers, a new initiative bringing together more than 250 cattle ranchers. The goal is to revolutionize live cattle exports by eliminating middlemen, allowing producers to negotiate directly with international buyers.
The news, first shared by Adriano Caruso (@adrianocarusooficial) on Instagram and his website, quickly spread across the industry, sparking excitement over the potential for improved margins in the cattle market.
Adding Value for Producers
UPEAV’s primary objective is to enable ranchers to export their live cattle without relying on trading companies or intermediaries. This direct sales model is expected to increase the value per arroba for members by up to 20%.
Beyond financial gains, the association aims to boost credibility and transparency in international trade, ensuring an organized, legally compliant, and health-certified supply chain.
How UPEAV Will Operate
UPEAV will structure and oversee the entire live cattle export process, focusing on key areas such as:
Comprehensive Support for Ranchers
- Identifying international buyers in countries with sanitary agreements with Brazil.
- Managing operational, logistical, sanitary, and financial aspects of exports.
- Ensuring compliance with government, institutional, and commercial regulations.
- Providing third-party legal, financial, and logistics services.
Direct International Market Negotiations
- Conducting market data analysis.
- Assessing profit margins.
- Handling contract finalization, credit letters, and foreign exchange transactions.
Sanitary and Logistical Assurance
- Employing a specialized team for International Zoosanitary Certificate (CZI) issuance.
- Partnering with accredited laboratories and veterinarians.
- Mapping optimal transportation routes (land and sea) for cost reduction and quality assurance.
- Organizing Pre-Embarkation Establishments (EPEs).
Membership and Benefits
Interested cattle ranchers can join UPEAV to gain the following:
- Access to exclusive market data and private meetings.
- Legal, financial, and logistical support.
- Direct participation in trade negotiations.
- A quality and traceability certification seal for exported animals.
All operational costs will be collectively decided through member voting or a governing council.
Focus on Buyer Acquisition
UPEAV is already engaging with:
- Embassies and trade chambers of countries authorized to import live cattle from Brazil.
- Direct buyers interested in purchasing live animals.
The association’s goal is to present a well-structured export network and demonstrate the unity of Brazilian cattle ranchers in delivering quality, safety, and efficient logistics.
