CCGL concludes Brazil’s first dairy export to China

Earlier this month, China received its very first shipment of Brazilian dairy products. Two years after it opened its market and authorized Brazilian plants for export, Central Cooperativa Gaúcha Ltda (CCGL) sent a small volume of powdered milk by air from Guarulhos (SP) to Shanghai, on November 5th.
Emblematic, the business may start to open the doors of one of the biggest dairy consumer markets on the planet, whose imports are booming. “We really believe in this market for the future”, said Caio Vianna, president of CCGL, which had revenues of R$ 1.4 billion in 2020.
The first Brazilian group to seek authorization to export to China, CCGL will use this sale to try to expand business in the Asian country, where it already has a registered trademark. The import was carried out by one of the co-op’s partners, which is now going to act as a commercial correspondent to promote and sell the products from Rio Grande do Sul. Two more containers of powdered milk are already negotiated and should be shipped soon.
The exported cargo included whole powdered milk, skimmed powdered milk, and zero-lactose powdered milk – products that require the application of a lot of technology and may be of interest to the Chinese public, says the president of the central. “The objective of the first export is to have the product in China so that we can work commercially. We opened a channel with the largest consumer market in the world”, said Vianna, who did not reveal the value of the negotiation.
Brazilian dairy products began to be authorized in 2019 for export to China, but certification had been agreed with the Asian country since 2007. Currently, 33 companies are authorized to trade with the Chinese.
