The Government of Ceará signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the multinational company bp on the morning of Tuesday, the 16th. bp, one of the world’s largest energy groups, is set to collaborate with the state government on the construction of a facility for the production of green hydrogen (H2V) and its derivatives, such as green ammonia, at the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP).
With over a century of experience, bp has made significant breakthroughs, evolving from a local oil and natural gas company to a global energy conglomerate. With operating branches in more than 70 countries, including Brazil, bp aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 or earlier across all its operations, production, and sales.
Ian Spafford, bp’s Global Director of New Business (Green Hydrogen), underscored the competitive advantages of Ceará in the context of economic decarbonization. “The Port of Pecém is one of the best areas to develop the green hydrogen project. The hydrogen molecule is crucial for the energy transition in the industry. bp is diligently collaborating with various sectors worldwide, particularly in the United States, to facilitate this transition. We are already working to create this demand. We have a keen interest in expediting this process to the maximum extent,” he stated.
