Apr, 09, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202416
Foreign Minister Javier González Olaechea has confirmed that the construction of the Chancay Multipurpose Port Terminal is on track as scheduled, despite the controversy surrounding the port’s essential services.
“Everything is proceeding according to plan, and at a rapid pace,” González Olaechea stated in an interview with RPP.
He also confirmed that Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend the inauguration of the Chancay port, scheduled to take place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit from November 10 to 16, 2024.
Although the visit of the Chinese dignitary has yet to be officially confirmed, diplomatic channels are in progress.
Additionally, González Olaechea mentioned that he will travel to China later this month upon an official invitation to fulfill an extensive work agenda.
Regarding the dispute over the exclusive provision of essential services at the Port of Chancay, the Foreign Minister expressed confidence in resolving the issue through appropriate legislation passed by the Congress.
He emphasized that precise regulations will bring greater clarity, enabling the Executive Branch to act within the framework of this new legislation.
González Olaechea noted that the Congress’s relevant commission on Transportation and Communications will convene today to address the matter and rectify any gaps in the regulatory framework of the national port system.
