Chicken and pork exports likely to grow in 2023, says ABPA

According to the Brazilian National Protein Association (ABPA), total exports of fresh and processed chicken meat are expected to reach 5.2 million tonnes in 2023, up 8.5% from 4.580 million tonnes in 2022.
The industry group’s perspective is that Brazilian production this year will catch up to 14.5 million tonnes, up 1.5% compared to 2021 (14.329 million tonnes).
Exports
Exports, in turn, may be up to 5% higher comparatively, reaching 4.850 million tonnes.
In terms of per capita consumption, the index is expected to reach 45.1 kg/year in 2022, which is 0.2% less than the consumption recorded in 2021, which was 45.5 kg/year.

Chicken meat production is expected to reach 14.750 million tonnes in 2023, a 2% increase over 2022.
ABPA also informed that domestic consumption tends to increase, with per capita consumption reaching 45.5 kg/year, 0.8% higher than this year.
Pork export
Total exports of fresh and processed pork meat in 2023 should reach 1.250 million tonnes, a volume 12% higher than that shipped in 2022, with 1.120 million tonnes.
According to the association, Brazilian production will reach 5 million tonnes this year, which is 6.5% higher than the 4.701 million tonnes recorded last year.
Exports, in turn, may be up to 1.5% lower on the same comparatively, reaching 1.120 million tonnes.

In terms of per capita consumption, the index is expected to reach 18 kg/year in 2022, which is 8% higher than the consumption recorded in 2021, which was 16.7 kg/year.
Pork production is expected to reach 5.150 million tonnes in 2023, a 4% increase over 2022.
ABPA also informed that domestic consumption tends to increase, with per capita consumption reaching 18.5 kg/year, 3% higher than this year.
