Chicken Meat Exports Close 2024 with a 3% Increase

Brazilian chicken meat exports, including fresh and processed items, saw a 3% uptick in 2024, according to data released on Tuesday (7) by the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). Brazil exported approximately 5.3 million tonnes of poultry throughout the year, topping the 5.1 million tonnes recorded in 2023, marking the sector’s highest export volume. Additionally, the industry reached a historical record in export revenues. From January to December 2024, exports totaled USD 9.928 billion, representing a 1.3% increase compared to USD 9.796 billion in 2023.

In December 2024, the sector exported 448,700 tonnes, 4% less than the 467,200 tonnes shipped in December 2023. Despite this, revenue increased by 4.6%, reaching USD 856.9 million in December, compared to USD 818.9 million in the same period of the previous year. According to Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA, the year’s performance confirms the association’s expectations and establishes new benchmarks for monthly averages, with shipments exceeding 440,000 tonnes.

In the ranking of Brazil’s largest chicken meat importers in 2024, China remained the leader, importing 562,200 tonnes, despite a 17.6% drop compared to the previous year. The United Arab Emirates and Japan followed, with 455,100 tonnes (+3.3%) and 443,200 tonnes (+2.2%), respectively. Other key markets included Saudi Arabia (370,800 tonnes, -1.6%), South Africa (325,400 tonnes, -4.4%), the Philippines (234,800 tonnes, +7%), the European Union (231,900 tonnes, +6.9%), Mexico (212,500 tonnes, +22.6%), Iraq (179,800 tonnes, +18.1%), and South Korea (155,800 tonnes, -22.8%).

Among exporting states, Paraná retained its leadership, exporting 2.174 million tons (+4.1%), followed by Santa Catarina with 1.167 million tons (+5.7%), Rio Grande do Sul with 692,000 tons (-6.32%), São Paulo with 297,200 tons (+1.6%), and Goiás with 243,900 tons (+3%).

Ricardo Santin predicts that the sector’s positive profitability will continue in 2025. “For 2025, we project new monthly highs and results surpassing those achieved in 2024, reinforcing the expectation of sustained profitability for agro-industrial companies in the sector,” he ssays
