Chicken meat exports from Brazil (both fresh and processed) totaled 397.7 thousand tonnes in February, according to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA). This figure exceeds by 4.7% the total shipped in the same period of 2023, which stood at 379.2 thousand tonnes.
The export revenue generated in the second month of this year reached $707 million. This number is 4% lower than the total recorded a year ago, which amounted to $736.3 million.
In the cumulative total for the first two months of this year, chicken meat exports amounted to 802.2 thousand tonnes, a volume 0.3% higher than that achieved in the first two months of 2023, totaling 800.1 thousand tonnes. The revenue seen during the period reached $1.390 billion, which is 12.7% lower than the same period in 2023, with $1.593 billion.
Among the top five destinations for Brazilian chicken meat exports in the first two months are China, with 80.4 thousand tonnes (a 28% decrease compared to the previous year), United Arab Emirates, with 78.2 thousand tonnes (+27.7%), Japan, with 76.6 thousand tonnes (+26.2%), Saudi Arabia, with 67.6 thousand tonnes (+8.4%), and South Africa, with 50 thousand tonnes (-19%).
“The beginning of the year is a period heavily influenced by the pre-Ramadan import flow. In this context, in addition to the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, we have seen remarkable growth in exports to Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, and other destinations in the region, especially in a context of certain uncertainties due to conflicts in the region,” explains ABPA’s markets director, Luís Rua.
Paraná remains the largest exporter of chicken meat in Brazil, with 326.4 thousand tonnes exported in the first two months of this year, a number 0.1% lower than that recorded in 2023. Rounding up the podium are Santa Catarina, with 183 thousand tonnes (+4.8%), Rio Grande do Sul, with 112.8 thousand tonnes (-0.5%), São Paulo, with 42.8 thousand tonnes (-1.74%), and Goiás, with 36.7 thousand tonnes (+5.3%).
