Surveys by ABPA (the Brazilian association of animal protein) show that Brazilian exports of chicken meat (considering all products, including fresh and processed) totaled 418,500 tons in September, a 21.3% increase compared to the same period in 2020 when 345,000 tons were shipped.
The strong exports generated revenues of US$ 730.5 million, 52.5% greater than the US$ 479 million registered in September 2020.
In the year-to-date result (January to September), chicken meat exports totaled 3.466 million tons, 9% higher than shipped in the first nine months of 2020, with 3.178 million tons.
As a result, the result in dollars of exports reached US$ 5.623 billion, a figure 21.7% higher than the revenue registered in the same period last year, with US$ 4.619 billion.
“The exports carried out in the third quarter were particularly high, surpassing the monthly average of 400,000 tons in volume and US$ 700 million in the foreign exchange balance. These are indicators that reinforce ABPA’s projections for a record-breaking year in terms of exports”, assesses Ricardo Santin, president of ABPA.
China, the main destination for Brazilian shipments, imported 63,200 tons in September, an increase of 20.4% YoY in September. Next came Japan, with 46,900 tons (+45.2%), and the United Arab Emirates, with 43,200 tons (+66.3%). Other highlights were the Philippines, with 20,200 tons (+1118.8%), European Union, with 16,900 tons (+20.8%), and Mexico, with 9,200 tons (+348%).
“The gradual resumption of activities has boosted consumption in several Brazilian export destinations, especially in the Middle East and Asia, as well as in regions that import more value-added products, as is the case with the European Union. The world supply is in line with demand, which has been supporting international prices and export revenue”, explains Luís Rua, ABPA’s director of markets.
