According to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA), chicken meat exports (including in natura and processed products) totaled 4.6 million tons in 2021, the largest volume ever recorded by the sector in a single year.
According to the survey, the number exceeded by 9% the total exported by Brazil in 2020, when 4.23 million tons were shipped. In terms of revenue, there was a 25.7% growth in 2021, with US$ 7.66 billion compared to US$ 6.09 billion the previous year.
In December alone, chicken meat exports totaled 411 thousand tons, up 7.7% from the 381.7 thousand tons recorded in the last month of 2020. In terms of revenue, there was a 29.9% growth, with US$ 718.9 million in December 2021 compared to US$ 533.3 million the previous year.
“Increased export rates were necessary to mitigate the effects of rising production costs caused by historically high corn and soybean prices, which are the key inputs in the production of chicken meat. Despite a minor decrease in imports, China remains the primary destination for this industry’s shipments and is expected to continue being so for the foreseeable future. Other significant trading partners, such as Japan and the United Arab Emirates, should continue to be primary consignees,” analyzes the president at ABPA, Ricardo Santin.
