Chile expands markets and gains new customers for its seafood

The November 2024 report on non-copper and non-lithium exports has been published and is available for free download. Prepared by ProChile’s Market Intelligence Subdepartment using data from the National Customs Service, the report shows a -1.4% decline in non-copper and non-lithium exports from January to November 2024, totaling $37.632 billion. Conversely, service exports grew by +15.7% during the same period, reaching $2.170 billion.
For November alone, non-copper and non-lithium goods exports increased by +4.4% to $3.203 billion. Meanwhile, service exports fell by -3.1%, generating $197 million for the month.
Seafood Exports
Seafood exports continued their exceptional performance in 2024, reaching $710 million in November, a +12.2% increase compared to November 2023. This marks the third-highest monthly value on record, trailing only January and October of this year.
Cumulative data from January to November indicates 2024 could be a record-breaking year for Chilean seafood exports. Salmon and trout led the sector in November with $609 million in exports, representing 85.8% of the total. Other notable performers included jumbo squid (+289.1%) and jack mackerel (+234.5%), driven by strong international demand and market diversification strategies by Chilean exporters.
The United States remained the top destination for Chilean seafood in November, importing $221 million and accounting for 31.07% of total exports, despite a slight -2.9% decline compared to November 2023. Japan ranked second, importing $142 million—a year-over-year increase of +8.6%—representing 20.05% of total exports. Other key markets included Brazil ($77 million, +13%), China ($41 million, +24.7%), and Spain, which saw a significant +76.9% increase to $36 million, solidifying its position as a strategic market for Chilean seafood.

From January to November, several subsectors showed strong growth:
Services: $2.170 billion (+15.7%)
Fresh cherries: $2.033 billion (+27.8%)
Gold products: $1.299 billion (+41.0%)
Iodine: $1.277 billion (+4.6%)
In November, standout subsectors compared to the same month in 2023 included:
Salmon and trout: $609 million (+8.4%)
King crab: $156 million (+1404.6%)
Fresh avocados: $83 million (+12.8%)
Fresh cherries: $73 million (+80.8%)
Animal and plant-based fertilizers: $58 million (+86.6%)

China: $7.779 billion (+0.9%)
Brazil: $2.657 billion (+10.7%)
Netherlands: $1.356 billion (+6.9%)
Switzerland: $917 million (+27.7%)
Colombia: $917 million (+11.6%)

China: $698 million (+33.7%)
United States: $694 million (+0.6%)
Brazil: $238 million (+14.8%)
Mexico: $144 million (+30.8%)
Netherlands: $125 million (+13.2%)
