The Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA) expressed contentment in response to Tuesday’s announcement that China granted its approval for several new chicken meat processing units and cold storage facilities.
In a significant development, China has given the nod to eight fresh slaughterhouses and four cold storage facilities. These newly sanctioned slaughterhouses are spread across Paraná (five units), Santa Catarina (two units), and Rio Grande do Sul (one unit). The cold storage facilities, meanwhile, are located in Paraná (one unit), Santa Catarina (two units), and Rio Grande do Sul (one unit).
Ricardo Santin, President of ABPA, lauded the move, stating, “This marks a watershed moment, representing the largest surge in poultry authorizations granted by China in recent memory, following a five-year hiatus without new approvals. Such endorsements underscore the meticulous efforts led by Minister of Agriculture Carlos Fávaro and his team, alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government entities. They also signify China’s acknowledgment of Brazil’s unwavering commitment to meeting and exceeding international standards.”
Brazil, which previously boasted 47 poultry processing plants qualified to export to China, now sees a substantial rise in its tally, with 55 poultry slaughterhouses and four cold storage facilities approved.

Luís Rua, ABPA’s Market Director, shared his optimism about the potential impact of these approvals on Brazilian exports to China, stating, “These recent endorsements have ignited a sense of optimism within the industry, particularly as new players gain access to this highly lucrative market for the first time. China remains the primary destination for Brazilian chicken meat exports, accounting for a substantial 10% of the sector’s total shipments during the first two months of this year.”
