Representatives from China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) visited the Port of Santos on Thursday (26th), where they met with the Port Authority and toured one of the grain export terminals.
The delegation, led by Chinese Vice Minister Zhao Zenglian, was received by the Secretary of Agricultural Defense at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa), Carlos Goulart, the Director of the Department of Non-Tariff Negotiations and Sustainability at the Secretariat of Trade and International Relations, Augusto Billi, and other Mapa officials.
The Chinese delegation was highly impressed by the port’s infrastructure, control systems, and operational figures. During the visit, they observed the grain control and sampling processes carried out by agricultural inspection auditors working at the port.
China is Brazil’s main trade partner in the agricultural sector, accounting for 33.91% of the country’s exports. In the first eight months of this year, Brazil exported approximately USD 38 billion in agricultural products to the Chinese market, with 68% of that total coming from the soybean complex.
On Tuesday (24th), in Brasília, Mapa and the delegation discussed strategic topics to expand agricultural trade between Brazil and China, focusing on reviewing and updating sanitary and phytosanitary protocols, further strengthening the partnership between the two countries.
