The General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) temporarily suspended beef imports produced in another four Brazilian meatpacking plants. These units belong to JBS and Marfrig.
In addition to the Brazilian units, China suspended purchases from Russian and Uruguayan meatpackers. The GACC did not explain why China imposed the suspension, nor did it state whether purchases would automatically resume after the current embargo period expired. The country implemented the most recent suspensions in response to discovering covid-19 traces in shipped packages.
The Marfrig unit in Promissão (SP) had imports suspended for four weeks as of this Tuesday, May 24. In April, the same plant had already been embargoed for a week.
Another plant owned by Marfrig that had already been suspended is the one in Várzea Grande (MT). The new suspensions will have a term of seven days.
