The General Customs Administration of China (GACC) suspended imports from three Brazilian beef exports – JBS, Marfrig and Naturafrig – for an entire week, according to a report by Valor Econômico that cited a letter sent to the Brazilian embassy in Beijing.
This decision affects four units in Mato Grosso and São Paulo and came into effect on the 16th.
This letter disclosed that technicians identified the presence of nucleic acid from the new coronavirus in the outer packaging of four batches of frozen products from these companies sent to China.
The decision affects JBS’ meatpacking plant in Barra do Garças and Marfrig’s units in Várzea Grande, both in Mato Grosso, and Promissão, in São Paulo, and Naturafrig’s meatpacking plant in Pirapozinho, also in the state of São Paulo.
The companies did not offer any comment as of yet.
The previous week, the GACC suspended imports from two Brazilian beef units and one poultry producer, also for a week, effective April 8. This ban involved JBS’ beef units in Goiás and Marfrig’s in Mato Grosso, and a chicken unit in São Paulo owned by Zanchetta.
