The Port of Suape witnessed on April 15 an important operation at its Container Terminal (Tecon), which involved the transportation of 1,972 electric cars from Build Your Dreams, globally known as BYD. This Chinese company, headquartered in Xiam, is renowned for its leadership in manufacturing electric cars, trucks, and buses. Departing from the Port of Nansha, the vessel carrying these vehicles took 34 days to reach the coast of Pernambuco.
With the participation of numerous professionals, the operation is expected to be completed by Tuesday (March 16). Following customs procedures, the cars will depart the port bound for car shops scattered across the Northeast region. The importation of these Chinese units underscores the significance of Suape’s Vehicle HUB, which experienced a notable 42% growth in 2023 compared to the previous year.
The Zhong Yuan, a Chinese-flagged ship, meticulously transported the vehicles to Suape in containers specially adapted to ensure their safe arrival at the port. Once unloaded, the vehicles were transported to Suape’s Public Vehicle Yard (PPV). Nexus, a national company within the K-Line group specializing in automotive and project cargo logistics, facilitated much of the movement in Suape’s vehicle hub.
In February of this year, representatives from BYD visited the Port of Suape to familiarize themselves with the infrastructure and ongoing projects aimed at expanding operations. “The arrival of nearly two thousand units from BYD, destined for distribution in the states of the region, marks another success story for our vehicle hub, which continues to expand its reach gradually. This is incredibly positive news for Suape, Pernambuco, and the Northeast region,” emphasized Marcio Guiot, the CEO of the port authority.
BYD stands at the forefront of clean energy solutions, boasting assembly factories for 100% electric bus chassis and photovoltaic module production in Campinas (SP), alongside a third manufacturing unit located in the Manaus Free Trade Zone (AM), where lithium iron phosphate batteries are produced.
