Chinese Corn Imports Drop 91.6% in November, Says GACC; Wheat Down 89.4%

From January to November, China imported 13.32 million tons of corn, a decrease of 39.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
Chinese corn imports totaled 300,000 tons in November, representing a 20% increase compared to October but a significant 91.6% drop compared to November 2023, when the volume reached 3.59 million tons, according to data released by China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC). In financial terms, the month’s corn imports were $77 million.
Year-to-date through November, Chinese corn imports reached 13.32 million tons, a decline of 39.9% compared to the same period in 2023.
China’s wheat imports amounted to 70,000 tons in November, a reduction of 68.2% compared to October and 89.4% compared to November 2023. The value of these purchases totaled $22.1 million. Year-to-date wheat imports reached 11.02 million tons, a 4.1% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year.

Soybean imports stood at 7.15 million tons in November, a 9.7% decrease from October and November 2023. The value of soybean purchases reached $3.53 billion. However, year-to-date imports totaled 97.09 million tons, a 9.4% increase compared to the previous year.
In the case of soybean oil, imports amounted to 10,000 tons in November, compared to 20,000 tons in October and 40,000 tons in the same month of 2023. In financial terms, the total imported was $5.15 million. From January to November, 270,000 tons of soybean oil were purchased, an 11.3% drop compared to 2023.
Cotton purchases remained stable in November at 110,000 tons but showed a 64.5% decline compared to the same month in 2023. Year-to-date, cotton imports reached 2.48 million tons, a 46.7% increase compared to the previous year.
Palm oil imports totaled 170,000 tons in November, compared to 250,000 tons in October and 440,000 tons in November 2023. From January to November 2024, 2.48 million tons were imported, a 38.6% decrease compared to the same period in 2023.
The dairy sector saw imports of 230,000 tons in November, an increase compared to 190,000 tons in October and 210,000 tons in November of the previous year. Year-to-date purchases totaled 2.35 million tons, an 11.3% decrease compared to last year.
Sugar imports reached 530,000 tons in November, slightly lower than the 540,000 tons in October but 20.45% higher than in November 2023. Year-to-date, the imported volume rose by 13.8%, totaling 3.96 million tons.
Fertilizer purchases in November amounted to 1.14 million tons, an increase of 3.6% from the previous month but 9.6% lower than in November 2023. From January to November, fertilizer imports totaled 12.61 million tons, an 8% increase compared to last year.
Chinese beef imports reached 260,000 tons in November, an 8.3% increase compared to October and the same month in 2023. The volume reached 2.6 million tons year-to-date, a 4.3% increase over 2023.
Meanwhile, pork imports amounted to 90,000 tons in November, which was stable compared to October and November 2023. From January to November, imports fell by 32.7%, totaling 980,000 tons.
