The meatpacker Ciacarne Alimentos, a company headquartered in Urucânia (MG), 208 kilometers from Belo Horizonte, is investing R$ 50 million in the expansion of its manufacturing plant. The company has the capacity to process 55 tons of pork per day and will increase this capacity to 120 tons per day. The expansion generated 200 direct and indirect jobs. Ciacarne employs 490 people.
José Maria Campos, the managing partner of the company, said that the investment in expanding the factory was made with its own resources and financing lines from Banco do Brasil and Itaú, but did not provide further details. Most of the expansion will be turned to the foreign market, according to Campos. Today, all production supplies the domestic market. The company’s goal for this year is to increase its sales in the country by 10%.
The company is awaiting the completion of some certifications to start exporting frozen pork. “It is possible to export industrialized products, but demand is very small,” said the executive.
According to Campos, despite the recent drop in international pork prices, the demand scenario is favorable in the long term. According to data from the Ministry of Finance, in the first half of the year, Brazilian pork exports totaled 500,500 tons, 18.8% more than in the same period of 2020. In value, there was an increase of 25.5%, to $1.27 billion FOB (Free onBoard). In June, shipments grew 12.4% in volume and 36% in value.
