Citrus/Brazil: Lemon Exports Stay Strong in January 2025 After 2024 Record
Feb, 21, 2025 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202508
Brazil’s exports of Tahiti limes reached a record high in 2024, maintaining a strong export pace in January 2025. According to Comex Stat, Brazil shipped 17.15 thousand tonnes in the month, an 18.1% increase compared to January 2024, generating revenue of US$ 14.826 million, up 13.4% from the same period last year.
However, the trend for February points to a decline in export volumes due to the smaller size of the fruit and hardened skins. Additionally, the spread of citrus canker has raised concerns among producers, as the disease thrives in warm, humid conditions and prevents the export of contaminated fruit.
The chart below shows the main fruits exported by Brazil by sea in 2024. The data was extracted from DataLiner, a business intelligence tool from Datamar.

On the domestic market, despite high prices at the beginning of the harvest, there was a drop in prices during the second half of February. A 27.2 kg box was priced at R$ 26.59 this week (Feb. 17-21), an 8.94% decrease compared to the previous week. The main reason for this decline is the lower quality of the fruit, which makes exports more difficult and increases supply in the domestic market.
In the orange market, prices for the Pera variety showed a slight increase, with the 40.8 kg box trading at R$ 101.83, up 0.88% compared to the previous week.
