On Monday (23), the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP) received the first call of the Atlas (Atlantic Shuttle) service, operated by Mercosul Line, a cabotage carrier and multimodal logistics provider under the CMA CGM Group. The new service, with fortnightly stops at Paranaguá, establishes a route connecting the port to key terminals in Santos, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, and Mar del Plata.
The CMA CGM Platon, the container ship making the first call, measures 170 meters in length and 27 meters in width, with a capacity of 1,713 TEUs.
Carolina Merkle Brown, TCP’s commercial manager of shipping lines, highlighted the strategic value of this addition: “The new service significantly boosts transport capacity between Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina, strengthening trade between these key partners. It also enhances transshipment efficiency, streamlining logistics for companies operating through Paranaguá.”
Transshipment at TCP, which involves the transfer of containers between vessels on different routes, has surged by 135% in 2024, reaching 128,423 TEUs between January and August.
With the addition of the Atlas service, TCP now operates 21 maritime services. “The increase in shipping lines reinforces our role as a port hub, consolidating shipping operations with enhanced safety and efficiency,” Merkle Brown added.
