French container carrier, CMA CGM, has ordered 50,000 Traxens container trackers that will allow shippers to monitor their cargo more closely while in transit. The trackers attached to the containers make it possible to monitor the container’s location, both at sea and on land, the intensity of shocks that may occur, external temperature variations, and the opening and closing of doors. The company was the first investor in Traxens in 2012.
When we first invested in TRAXENS in 2012 not so many could foresee the future of smart containers… and look where we are now!

The data gathered from the tracking monitors would be accessible via a web portal or an API. Shippers will need to request these containers in advance and are likely to pay extra fees for the new service.
