The Espírito Santo State Dock Company, mostly known by its Portuguese acronym CODESA, has shown a remarkably positive performance. From January to November, cargo handling has risen at the rate of 18.23%. It means that, while the company handled 6.2 million tons of cargo last year, the numbers have now risen to 7.3 million in 2021, exceeding by 6.08%, the volume handled in the entire year of 2020.
November’s performance was a key factor among the variables that contributed to the rise of total cargo volume handled by the company. Figures show that 737.229 tons were handled in 2021 compared to the 640,058 tons of cargo in the same period of 2020, indicating an increase of 15.18%.
Aggregate results
Cargo handling rates that showed the greatest growth up to November were: coal, with an increase of 271.3% (353,560 tons compared to 95,223 tons in 2020); automobiles with 69.2% (36,970 units compared to 21,853 units in 2020), and caustic soda with an increase of 38.7% (157,393 tons compared to 113,445 tons in 2020).
In the first eleven months of 2021, 732 vessels docked (last year 687 did), resulting in a rise of 54.42% of cargo unloading and 45.58% of shipments. Long-haul shipping accounted for 52.56% of those ships and coastal shipping, 47.44%.
