Codesp seeks container vessel calls during Libra Terminais transition

Santos Port Authority (Codesp) is planning to request Centronave, Brazil’s shipping lines association, and its partners to enter into a transitional contract with Libra Terminais at Santos, according to A Tribuna. The organ wants Libra to receive container vessels again until a new tenant for the port area assumes responsibilities. If the proposal to Centronave is unsuccessful, Codesp will seek other cargo for the terminal.
Codesp made this commitment in a meeting with the Libra Terminais worker’s union (Settaport) earlier this week. Settaport, which represents about 500 workers, has lodged a labor action suit against Libra to try to guarantee employment for terminal staff until the termination of the operational contract.
The terminal’s existing concession contract is valid until 2020. It requires Libra to move 400,000 containers per year until 2020. The following DataLiner graph shows Libra Terminais Santos container throughput trends since 2009:
Libra Terminais has three warehouses, T-33, T-35, and T-37, as well as three berths, each with a 14-meter draft. The terminal can store 13,000 containers.
