Codesp plans emergency dredging at Santos

Santos Port Authority (Codesp) issued a tender for emergency dredging to maintain the channel depth at the port of Santos. Offers will be accepted until the end of April. The engineering arm of the organ has already approved the Terms of Reference for the contract that allows the winning dredging company to dredge the channel for six months.
The dredging work had been carried out by a consortium formed by Van Oord Maritime Operations and Boskalis do Brasil, however it was suspended on Monday as planned in the original dredging contract. Codesp believes the existing margin of safety will ensure safe maneuverability of vessels for the next two months while a new company is contracted to carry out the works.
As reported by DatamarNews earlier this year, dredging plans at the port of Santos include increasing channel depth from the current 15m to between 15.4m and 15.7m, as well as increasing the depth of the berths which will vary between 7.6m and 15.7m.
In addition to the emergency dredging auction, Codesp is preparing a licitation for a two-year dredging contract to guarantee the longer term maintenance of the channel depth.
