Coffee exports from Espírito Santo, the country’s largest conilon-producing state, saw a 10% drop in July compared to the previous month, to 436,000 bags, informed the Vitória Coffee Trade Center. By type of variety, the biggest drop was Arabica (40%), followed by soluble (17%) and conilon (2%). Export volumes, in that order, totaled 52,000 bags, 38,000 bags, and 436,000 bags.
In a statement, the center informed that there was a “cargo flee” to ports in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo due to the deficit of port infrastructure in Espírito Santo.
Comparing July 2021 with July 2020, total exports dropped 27%. Considering the comparison between the accumulated annual figures, the state’s exports fell 15% between January and July this year, totaling 2.9 million bags in the period. In terms of revenue, exports totaled US$ 42 million in July and US$ 278 million in the year.
For the president of the entity that represents Espirito Santo exporters, Márcio Ferreira, the high prices of conilon coffee impacted the competitiveness of the product against the same type supplied by Vietnam, an important competitor, partially affecting shipments.
The ten countries that led the list of buyers were the United States, Mexico, Germany, Colombia, Indonesia, Algeria, Argentina, Turkey, Spain, and Russia.
