Colombia to buy dried distiller grains from Brazil
Sep, 06, 2024 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202436
The Brazilian government warmly welcomed Colombia’s decision to authorize the import of dried distiller grains (DDG or DDGS) from Brazil, marking a key development for the country’s agribusiness sector.
This commodity is a protein and energy source used in animal feed production for ruminants, swine, poultry, fish, and shrimp. DDG/DDGS are byproducts of corn ethanol production, typically relying on safrinha corn yields, the second harvest that takes place on the same land as the main crop within the same agricultural year. As a result, it does not require additional land, allowing for better use of natural resources.
With this new authorization, Brazil’s agribusiness sector has achieved its 105th market opening this year, totaling 183 new openings across 58 destinations since the beginning of 2023.
These achievements are the result of joint efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
