The completion of the works at the Abreu e Lima Refinery that is receiving US$ 1 billion (almost R$ 5 billion) from the Petrobras business plan, will consolidate Suape as a fuel handling port. Of the 25 million tons of cargo handled in 2020, 17 million (68%) were of the so-called liquid bulk (fuels and oils) type. With the completion of the second train, the refining unit will double its production capacity and boost Suape handling. According to Petrobras, the investment in the state will generate 10,000 jobs. Despite the news, heavy construction workers took the news cautiously.

The president of the Port of Suape, Roberto Gusmão, celebrates the completion of Petrobras’ investment in the refinery, which will be added to others already underway for the complex.

“Approved by the Council, the Petrobras business plan makes the investment mandatory. It is extremely important for Suape because it will double the capacity for handling liquid bulk, consolidating the port among the three most important in Brazil. This is based only on Petrobras, without counting the other projects planned. There will be an important resumption of employment, with a strong presence of construction within the complex; this will lead to an important volume of business for this moment of economic recovery”, he points out.
