According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the construction of dredging equipment for the Paraguay River has begun at the Japanese shipyard Fuji Kaiji Kogyo Co. Ltd. in the city of Aioi, Hyogo Prefecture.
This construction is part of Japan’s non-reimbursable financial cooperation through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Under this international agreement, the Republic of Paraguay receives 3,203,000,000 Japanese yen, equivalent to approximately 24,000,000 US dollars.
These funds are allocated for the construction of dredging equipment to improve the navigability of Paraguay’s rivers. Thus, the country’s foreign trade heavily relies on river navigation, contributing to its economic development.
The Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the dredging equipment is expected to be completed next year.
