Container handling at Pecém goes beyond 400 thousand TEUs in 2021

Operating since 2002, container handling at Pecém reached more than 400 thousand TEUs in a single year for the first time in its history. Over the course of 2021, a total of 410,557 TEUs (244,811) units passed through the port located in the state of Ceará, which represents a growth of 8.7% compared to the previous year. In 2020, 377.726 TEUs (228,362 units) were handled at the port.
In November 2021 alone, container handling at Pecém was 40,239 TEUs, the best result obtained in a single month recorded last year.
Cabotage shipping accounted for 344,332 TEUs, up 5% vis-a-vis the same period in 2020. In terms of long-haul shipping, the growth was 33%, from 49,640 TEUs in 2020 to 66,225 TEUs in 2021.
Volume measured in tons
Containerized loads accounted for 5,389,230 tons in 2021, making them the second-largest cargo category handled at Pecém, behind only solid bulks, which accounted for 9,827,740 tons. With a 24 percent participation rate, containerized cargoes were the second most important cargo in the cargo index measured in tons.
Compared to 2020, containerized cargo handling rates grew 11.8% in the year to date.
