Bahian ports and especially the port of Salvador have been facing problems in the last week of March due to the strike of drivers who transport containers in ports in the metropolitan region of the city. The measure has affected services.
According to information, on the port roads and at the container terminals located in the Bahian capital and in the metropolitan region of Salvador – which includes the municipalities of Simões Filho and Camaçari – autonomous truck drivers are harassing drivers who try to work during the strike.
According to Tecon Salvador’s executive director, Demir Lourenço, it is very difficult to work during the strike. “We are in serious trouble with the Port of Salvador. We cannot remove containers or send them to the port. I’m calling Cofic and FIEB to get government support. It is a serious problem and requires mobilization and pressure from shippers and all those who use the port to maintain their activities”, he said. “The ports in the region are extremely slow in handling containers due to the strike”.
