Two containers fell into the sea on Wednesday night (13) at the Port of Santos. The containers were in the yard of the Ecoporto terminal. The incident was recorded at 11:16 PM while strong winds were hitting the city.
According to the Port Authority of Santos (APS), navigation was suspended due to weather conditions between 11:15 PM and 2:45 AM. The containers were empty.
APS also mentions that one of the containers has already been removed from the sea by Ecoporto. In a statement, they reported that the two containers were empty at a terminal on the right bank of the port. There were wind gusts of up to 70 km/h at that time.
One of the containers was lifted by the terminal in the early morning, while the other remained submerged near Barnabé Island, on the left bank of the estuary, “without, however, affecting port operations.”
According to APS, the Port Guard continues maritime patrol in the area until the container is removed.
According to the São Paulo State Secretariat of the Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (Semil), the Santos/Guarujá ferry crossing was halted from 11:18 PM until 12:07 AM due to strong winds. The containers that fell into the sea did not affect the crossing on Thursday.
Today, the Santos/Guarujá crossing is operating normally with seven vessels and a waiting time of 20 minutes in Santos and 30 minutes in Guarujá.
