Corn: Paraguay expects record second crop harvest in 2022
Jul, 07, 2022 Posted by Gabriel MalheirosWeek 202227
According to the Paraguayan Grains and Oilseed Traders Association (CAPECO), the country expects a record harvest from the second corn crop in the 2021/2022 market year, owing primarily to an increase in international commodity prices caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which has favored growth in planted area, which now stands at 1.2 million hectares.
Currently, sector agents expect between 5 and 6 million tonnes of corn, representing almost double last year’s production. In turn, the price is above US$ 300 per tonne, which may help partially reverse the revenue drop recorded in the country’s main crop, soybeans, according to Capeco.
