
Cotton/Cepea: Slow Domestic Trade in Brazil; Strong Export Activity

Cotton lint negotiations in the domestic market have been slow at the start of February, with agents struggling to agree on prices and/or the quality of available batches. While some buyers offer lower prices for new purchases, others are willing to pay more to attract sellers.

Brazilian cotton shipments started the year quickly on the export front, reaching record volumes. According to Secex, Brazil exported 415.6 thousand tons of cotton in January, the highest ever. Over the past 12 months (February 2024 to January 2025), exports have surpassed 2.9 million tons, a record for the period.
