The “green” demands of large food importers and changes in global consumption habits, especially in Europe, lit the warning signal for exporters in the Americas. For the first time, 31 nations, including Brazil, the United States, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, and Chile, signed a document with a unified position in defense of local agrifood systems, with an emphasis on the sustainability of agricultural production on the continent.
The underlying concern is the possible “responsibility” of these countries in terms of greenhouse gases emissions, mainly from livestock, and the unwanted imposition of future trade barriers due to a supposed “war of narratives”.
