Declining Prices and Impact on Revenue

In addition to the reduction in export volumes, the average sugar price dropped 11.1%, from $536.7 per ton in January 2024 to $477.2 per ton in 2025. This depreciation directly impacted export revenues, which experienced a 32.3% decline in the daily average.

At the start of this year, Brazil recorded an average daily revenue of $52,362.9 thousand, compared to $77,323.8 thousand during the same period last year. So far, in seven business days, sugar and molasses exports have generated $628,355.4 thousand, while in the entire month of January 2024, with 22 business days, revenues reached $1,701,124.2 thousand.

Context and Challenges

The combination of reduced shipment volumes and declining international prices highlights the sector’s challenges at the start of the year. The downturn may be linked to fluctuations in global demand, exchange rate changes, and adjustments in domestic production.

The performance in the coming weeks will be crucial to determine whether this downward trend will reverse or if the sector will face a difficult start to the year in the external market.
