Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ), the port authority that manages the ports of Rio de Janeiro, Itaguaí, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis, continues to achieve good financial and operational performance this year. The last month of May registered the largest volume handled in 2021, with 6.236 million tons handled. The numbers also represent the largest cargo movement since December 2018.
Invoicing in May totaled R$ 88.1 million, which corresponds to the second-highest invoicing amount this year in nominal terms, notwithstanding the amounts due for the minimum annual movement of 2020, invoiced in January 2021.
The data was released this week by the business planning area at Docas do Rio. According to the survey, the result is mainly due to iron ore exports through the Port of Itaguaí, which reached 4.876 million tons in May.
The report also points out that the variation in iron ore handling compared to April 2021 was 1.726 million tons, that is, an increase of 54.8%. Compared to May 2020, there was a growth of 51.4%, with 1.656 million tons more handled. In the accumulated 2021 x 2020, the volume of iron ore handled has already increased by 5.698 million tons (+45.2%).
Exported volumes of the commodity accounted for a turnover of BRL 67.6 million in May, an increase of BRL 43.6 million (+181.4%) compared to May 2020. In the accumulated 2021 x 2020, revenue from iron ore exports has already increased by 162.9 million tons (+178.1%).
