Brazilian sugar and ethanol maker Dedini has signed a cooperation agreement with India’s Praj Industries to sell equipment for ethanol production, including corn-based biofuel technologies. Praj is a process and project engineering company based in Pune, Maharashtra, India, with offices in various parts of the world.

“Through this agreement, Praj and Dedini will sell and install plants to produce ethanol from grain and will also work to modernize existing ethanol production facilities in Brazil,” Dedini said in an e-mailed statement. The amount of the transaction was not disclosed.

Praj will manage technology licensing engineering and provide key equipment. In turn, Dedini will handle equipment manufacturing, site supervision, customer service, and all logistics.

The company added that the cooperation agreement aims to meet growing demand for ethanol as a result of a national program to increase biofuel use, known as RenovaBio, which is due to take effect on January 1, 2020. Based on the industry calculations, Dedini stated that RenovaBio would require the expansion of the plants in Brazil, as well as the reactivation of some that have already closed and also 30 new large plants.
