On June 9, the public company Portos do Paraná received delegations from the embassies of Bangladesh and the Netherlands. The groups sought to discuss expanding trade with Brazil and creating collaborative opportunities.
Bangladesh, which is now one of the three largest consumers of soybeans exported via Paranaguá, wants to increase vegetable oil imports. The government is also searching for new economic opportunities through Paraná, according to ambassador Sadia Faiunnesa. “This cargo movement is vital to us,” she continued, “and our connection with Paraná has expanded in recent years.” She also paid a visit to interim governor Darci Piana before visiting the coast.
The Netherlands, one important consumer of soybean meal, reinforced the importance of Paraná in international trade. On a business expedition to Brazil, businessmen from the port of Rotterdam, one of Europe’s most developed ports, visited Paranaguá and shared ideas with port operators and partners from the local terminal.
“Our objective is to establish a joint, long-term strategy that brings the two countries even closer. We want to create a robust collaboration that benefits both economies and allows the exchange of knowledge to generate new business sustainably and innovatively, ” said Wilbert Lek, who coordinates the group.
The most important destinations of the cargo shipped from Paraná are:
Soybeans: China, South Korea, and Bangladesh
Soy meal: the Netherlands, South Korea, and France
Maize: Iran, Egypt, and Japan
Sugar: Argelia, Iraq, and Switzerland
On the other hand, most imported cargo comes from:
Fertilizers: China, Russia, Canada.
Fuel: the USA, Togo, and the UAE.
