Companhia Docas do Rio de Janeiro (CDRJ) has set a new annual sales record, reaching R$ 1.050 billion in 2021, up 62.1 percent in nominal terms from 2020. Rio de Janeiro, Itagua, Niterói, and Angra dos Reis, the Port Authority’s four ports, handled a total of 61.9 million tons of cargo, the highest volume in three years.
Francisco Antônio de Magalhães Laranjeira, CEO of Docas do Rio, said that such a result was only possible due to a combination of factors: “High cargo handling rates, as well as other variables such as the exchange rate and the price of iron ore in the international market, which increase export earnings, drove the extraordinary revenue earned in 2021.” In addition, it is worth mentioning the successful negotiations with main commercial partners, the effective cash flow management and the lowest debt ratio in recent years”.
For him, the estimate for 2022 is that the pace of growth will continue as will the constant search for administrative and operational efficiency”.
Cargo handling
The company’s Business Planning report points out that, for the entire 2021, the movement of 61.9 million tons was 13.2% higher than the total achieved in 2020. According to the analysis, the performance of 2021 was positively impacted by the growth in iron ore exports, with 44.8 million tons handled, which corresponds to an increase of 13.7% compared to 2020.
The data also indicate a 9.6% increase in the movement of containerized cargo, especially in the Port of Rio de Janeiro.
