This article explores the top trading partners of East Coast South American countries in terms of container trade from January to August 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. The data was compiled by Datamar’s Business Intelligence team.

China remains Brazil’s primary trading partner in container exports, taking in 14% more cargo in the first eight months of the year than in the same period in 2023. The United States ranks second, with Brazilian shipments increasing by 8.4%, and Mexico’s is third, with exports up 24.6% from a year prior. See the ranking of the other countries below.

China and the United States were Brazil’s main trading partners for container imports between January and August 2024, just as they were for exports. Compared to the first eight months of 2023, incoming imports from China increased by 31.5% and those from the United States by 20.3%. Imports from Germany increased by 5.4% over the same period. China leads Argentina’s containerized exports ranking. Shipments to the Asian country increased by 1.5% in the first eight months of the year compared to the same period the previous year. The United States is next, with a 10% increase in volume, followed by Brazil, with a 20.4% increase in exports. Check out the complete list below.

In Argentine imports via containers, there was a drop in volumes from most trading partners. For China, the drop in the January-August comparison of 2024 and 2023 was 26.6%; for Brazil – 26.9%; and for the United States – 27.7%. See the other drops below:

China tops the ranking for containerized exports from Paraguay and Uruguay despite a 14.7% drop in volume when comparing the first eight months of 2024 to the same period in 2023. The United States follows, with a 23.6% increase in shipments, and Vietnam saw a significant rise of 72.7%. The full list is detailed below:

For containerized imports, China also leads Paraguay and Uruguay in the first eight months of 2024, with a 9.5% increase over the same period in 2023. The United States saw a 6.7% decline, while Turkey registered a 17.2% rise. Further details are provided below:
