This article explores the top trading partners of East Coast South American countries in terms of container trade from January to July 2024, compared to the same period in 2023. The data was compiled by Datamar’s Business Intelligence team.

China was Brazil’s top trading partner for containerized exports between January and July 2024, with volumes 21.8% higher than in the same period of 2023. The U.S. ranked second, with a 7.7% increase from a year ago, and Mexico saw a significant rise of 26.4% in shipments. See the full table below:

China (+34.6%) and the United States (+20.6%) also took the lead as Brazil’s primary trading partners for containerized imports in the first seven months of 2024. Germany ranked third, with imports up 6.5% year-over-year. Follow the details below:

China was Argentina’s top trading partner for containerized exports in the first seven months of 2024, with volumes up 3.1% compared to the same period in 2023. The U.S. saw a 16.7% rise in shipments from Argentina, and Brazil followed closely, with volumes up 14.4% over the same comparison period. Check out the complete rankings:

On the import side, Argentina saw a decline in container volumes from most destinations. Imports from China, its largest trading partner in this regard, fell by 26.9% during the first seven months of the year compared to the same period in 2023. U.S. imports dropped 24.4%, while those from Brazil saw a sharp decline of 26% year-over-year. See the detailed figures below:

For Paraguay and Uruguay, China was the top trading partner for containerized exports between January and July 2024, though export volumes dropped by 13% compared to the same months in 2023. The United States experienced a 34.4% increase in shipments, followed by Vietnam, which surged by 72.6%. Explore the data below:

In containerized imports, China also ranked as the primary trading partner for both Paraguay and Uruguay in the first seven months of the year, with volumes up 11.1% compared to the same period in 2023. The United States saw a slight decline of 3.3%, while Turkey recorded a 17.7% increase in shipments over the same period last year. Check out the full rankings below:
