Egypt doubles beef imports from Brazil

Egypt nearly doubled Brazilian beef imports from January to August this year, according to information released this Tuesday (6) by the Brazilian Meat Packers Association (Abrafrigo). The Arab country went from purchasing 41,300 tonnes in the first eight months of 2021 to 81,300 tonnes in the same period this year, up 96.8%.
Overall, Brazilian beef exports reached 1.5 million tonnes in the first seven months of 2022, yielding USD 8.825 billion in revenue, an 18.4% increase in volume, and 40.7% in revenue. The numbers include fresh and processed beef. Solely in August, exports totaled 230,100 tonnes, tallying USD 1.36 billion in sales, an expansion of 8.6% in volume and 15.8% in revenue.
China was the leading buyer from January to August, with 786,800 tonnes and USD 5.3 billion, up 31% in volume and 69.7% in revenue. As a result, the Asian country was responsible for purchasing 51.8% of Brazilian exports of the product. The second major buyer was the United States, and Egypt came third. In fourth and fifth came Hong Kong and Chile, respectively.
