Week 202122

The trade balance from the electric and electronic sector accumulated a deficit of US $ 11.1 billion in the first four months of the year, 20.6% greater than the negative balance registered in the same period last year, of US$ 9.2 billion. In the period, exports totaled US$ 1.6 billion, an increase of 11.3% compared to the same period last year, and imports, which grew 19.3%, totaled US$ 12.7 billion, or 19.3% above the US$ 10.6 billion imported in the first four months of 2020.

According to data released by ABINEE (the Brazilian electrical and electronic industry association), with regard to exports, from January to April, six of the eight areas of the sector experienced growth, with rates reaching up to + 62.5%, as this was the case in the Informatics area.

There was also a significant growth in Housewares (+ 50.0%). In this case, there were increases in several products, such as freezers (+ 298%), electric batteries (+ 145%), stoves (+ 98%), and electric water heaters (+ 84%), among others.

In the case of Electrical and Electronic Components (+ 17.2%), the increase from US$ 657.9 million in January-April 2020 to US$ 771.0 million in January-April 2021 was mainly accounted for by the 35% growth in foreign sales of embedded electronics and components for electrical installation material. It is worth remembering that both are among the ten most exported products in the sector.
