Elizabeth Farina, a leading expert in agribusiness economics, is honored at the 2025 Brazilian Agribusiness Law Congress, organized by IBDA. The 2025 Brazilian Agribusiness Law Congress pays tribute to an economist who is a key reference in agribusiness: Dr. Elizabeth Farina, Senior Professor at the Department of Economics at FEA-USP, specializing in Regulation and Antitrust Economics and Sustainability. The tribute will be delivered by Marcos Jank, Agribusiness Professor at Insper, Coordinator of Insper Agro Global, and Member of the Curatorial Council of CBDA. The event, organized by the Brazilian Institute of Agribusiness Law (IBDA), will take place on March 31 at the Renaissance Hotel in São Paulo.

The congress fosters an essential discussion on the sector’s legal and regulatory challenges, promoting a systemic and multidisciplinary perspective among stakeholders. This broad vision of global market relations is crucial for Brazil to solidify its central role in global geopolitics as a key player in global food security. Prof. Dr. Decio Zylbersztajn (2023) and Dr. Arnold Wald (2024) were honored in previous editions.

Elizabeth Farina’s expertise and extensive experience in organizational management, economics, and public policy within the Brazilian agribusiness landscape make her a highly respected figure. In December 2024, she spoke at the Global Forum on Competition, Final Section, at the OECD headquarters in Paris, discussing competition in the food supply chain.

She has served as Executive Director of WRI Brasil – World Resources Institute, a research institute focused on Climate Change and Sustainability. Additionally, she was CEO of Tendências Consultoria Integrada and held the position of CEO at UNICA – Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association. Farina also served as President of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) at the Ministry of Justice and was a Board Member of the International Competition Network, representing CADE.

Her impressive résumé includes memberships in prestigious national and international organizations, such as the National Academy of Agriculture, the Advisory Board of Bonsucro, and the Economics and Agribusiness Councils at FIESP (São Paulo State Industry Federation). She is a retired Full Professor at the School of Economics, Administration, and Accounting at the University of São Paulo, where she also served as Head of the Economics Department.

The 2025 Brazilian Agribusiness Law Congress features a program covering key topics for the sector. Minister Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) will deliver the opening lecture titled “Legal Certainty and the Legal Framework of Agribusiness.” The event will also include four discussion panels: “The Future of the Contractual Network in Agribusiness,” “The New Rural Credit Model,” “Risk Management, Insurance, and Capital Markets,” “Uses and Restrictions of Rural Properties & Climate Change,” and “The Regulated Carbon Market.”
