Last week, Eneva, a Brazilian company operating in oil and natural gas generation, exploration, and production and in the sale of electricity, announced the formalization of a partnership to invest in the installation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Porto do Itaqui or nearby areas. Based on the cooperation agreement signed with Servtec Investimentos e Participações, a feasibility study for implementing the project will begin.
For the president of EMAP, Ted Lago, this is another step towards consolidating the Port of Itaqui as a hub for oil and energy products. “We have been talking to Eneva about the possibility of implementing a gas terminal to serve both local industries and for vehicular use,” he said.
The company maintains a solid relationship with the public port of Maranhão since it installed its first project in the state, the Itaqui plant. In order to receive the mineral coal used in power generation, Eneva has a 5-km conveyor belt that connects the port to the plant.
