EPL proposes using ports in Chile and Argentina to reduce logistical costs

Using ports located in northern Chile to export Mato Grosso do Sul’s output to Asia can reduce logistical costs by more than 20%. This is what the survey carried out by the Planning and Logistics Company (EPL) shows after a series of technical visits to the ports of Iquique, Tocopilla, Mejilones and Antofagasta, in Chile.
The data collected by the EPL National Transport and Logistics Observatory (ONTL) are used to create the State of Mato Grosso do Sul’s Logistical Diagnosis. The work in progress will allow logistics firms of the state to be integrated into the central planning of the Federal Government, allowing for consistent structuring of infrastructure investments.
Aside from lowering logistics costs, the route between Chile and Asia can be completed in 28 days, 12 days less than transport across the Atlantic Ocean – a 30% reduction in travel time if companies in Mato Grosso do Sul start opting for using ports in the north of Chile.
EPL’s work includes an investigation into which products would be handled, as well as an assessment of logistic chains, operating costs, customs integration, access to Asian markets, and bureaucracy, among other factors.
The Cargo Distribution Centers in Salta, Perico, Guemes, and Jujuy, in northern Argentina, will also receive technical visits. According to the EPL, the results of the port surveys and the Logistical Diagnosis of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul will be presented in 2022.
