EU citrus imports show signs of dropping

According to the latest EU citrus monitoring report, in the first nine months of 2022, the European Union imported 35.5 million 40.8kg boxes of citrus fruits, i.e., 8.8% less than in the same period last year and 6.2% less than the average of the previous five years.
The leading supplier of citrus fruits to the EU (considering only countries outside the European bloc) was South Africa, with 14.6 million boxes of 40.8 kg between January and September, that is, 4.8% less than in the first nine months of 2021. Egypt followed with 5.8 million packages of 40.8 kg, a drop of 29.3%; Turkey with around 3.9 million boxes of 40.8 kg, an increase of 22.5%; Argentina with 3.4 million packages of 40.8 kg, a growth of 10.6%.
In the first nine months of 2022, among EU citrus fruit imports, oranges reached the mark of 13.7 million boxes of 40.8 kg. However, compared to the same period in 2021, this represents a drop of 23%.
